Spectroscopic properties of Yb,Er:LaF3 single crystal for 1.5–1.6 μm laser (Version: V1)

A Yb3+ and Er3+ co-doped LaF3 single crystal was grown and reported for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The structure and spectral properties were investigated, and Judd-Ofelt (J-O) calculations were performed. The absorption cross-section at 975 nm was calculated to be 0.20×10-20 cm2. Ω2, Ω4, and Ω6 were calculated to be 0.54×10-20 cm2, 0.34×10-20 cm2, and 0.49×10-20 cm2, with which the fluorescence lifetime of Er3+:4I13/2 was calculated. The measured fluorescence spectral properties were investigated as well. The energy transfer mechanism between Yb3+ and Er3+ was studied.

Nd GSAG 1.3um (Version: V1)

We report on the laser performance of neodymium-doped gadolinium scandium aluminum garnet (Nd:GSAG) crystals at 1.3 μm for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. An efficient continuous-wave (CW) laser at 1336 nm and on output power of up to 2.01 W was obtained under an absorbed pump power of 4.89 W with slope and optical-to-optical efficiencies of 43.4% and 41.1%, respectively. Furthermore, a passively Q-switched (PQS) laser with a Co:MgAl2O4 crystal serving as a saturable absorber in a compact plano-plano resonator cavity was examined. A maximum average output power of 0.2 W was obtained with a pulse width, pulse energy, and peak power of 34.4 ns, 22.2 µJ, and 645 W, respectively. Our results indicated that Nd:GSAG crystals are promising for producing high-efficiency CW lasers and effective PQS lasers at 1336 nm.

Effects of the ionizing irradiation of γ-rays, X-rays, and UV-rays on the optical properties of Ag-contained/Ag-free photo-thermo-refractive glass (Version: V1)

To simulate the effects of ionizing irradiation on photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass in a cosmicenvironment, the optical properties changes under ionizing irradiation (γ-, X- and UV-ray) were investigatedon PTR-glass with and without Ag doped (named as PTR-S and PTR-F, respectively) samples.Thermoluminescence (TL), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements, UV-VIS absorptionspectroscopy analysis, Gaussian peak fitting, and continuous wave electron paramagnetic resonance (CW-EPR)were used to determine the species of the irradiation-induced color centers. The radiation resistance propertiesof the Ag-species on the PTR-S glass were evaluated by comparing the defect center concentrations in theirradiated PTR-S and PTR-F glasses.
