Misericordes sicut Pater. Mons. Giuseppe Ruotolo e il Villaggio del Fanciullo a S. Maria di Leuca negli anni '50-'60 del Novecento.

In the first post-war period mons. Ruotolo, Ugento-S. Maria of Leuca diocese's bishop from 1938 to 1968, through the collaboration of Unrra, United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, of South-Italy Standing Committee, of Poa (Welfare Papal Organization) and supported by political and religious personages, for instance Don Luigi Sturzo, plans and realizes the Child Village. The Child Village, erected beside S. Maria of Leuca Sanctuary and inaugurated on 27 September 1953, opened until '70, is a didactic institute that looks at the education and the vocational training of needy and often without family children, in these ranks owing to the war and, afterward, to the strong emigration; then it will receive also "problematical" kids. Mons. Ruotolo is pushed to its foundation by post-war period Cape of Leuca children poor life conditions, which couldn't leave his merciful Shepherd heart indifferent. In the realization of his project, he is inspired by Christian social pedagogy, incarnated by s. Giovanni Bosco "preventive method".
