S-Index Interpretation
The S-Index (Sharing Index) is a comprehensive metric that represents the cumulative impact of all your datasets. It is calculated as the sum of Dataset Index scores across all your claimed datasets.
What it means:
- A higher S-index indicates greater overall impact of your datasets relative to typical datasets in their fields of research
- The S-Index grows as you add more datasets or as existing datasets gain more citations and mentions
- It provides a single number to track your research data impact over time
Current S-Index: 0.7 (sum of 1 dataset Dataset Index scores)

Datasets
The Pink Shrimp catch and effort grid dataset has been assembled directly from the Shellfish Data Units harvest log database located at the Pacific Biological Station (PBS). The dataset has been modified to meet the sensitive nature of the data as per the Access to Information Act20(1)(b,c); which specifies that Fisheries and Oceans Canada will not disclose to a third party confidential information that may prejudice the competitive position of the fisher, in which fishing location has been identified as one of the entities to be protected. There was a 10km x 10km grid used in the desensitization process. As well information was limited to total Effort (kilometre) and total Catch (lbs). The dataset is comprised of an aggregate of Pink Shrimp only and specifically targets the 1997-2004 fishing seasons (April-March).
