Cuatro lugares colindantes a la Reserva Natural La Planada fueron caracterizados de manera preliminar durante los meses de marzo a septiembre. Los lugares fueron tres zonas indígenas (El Derrumbo, la finca Lucerito y el predio Monteazul, en el Resguardo de Pialapí Pueblo Viejo) y una zona campesina (La Resera Natural El Bosque, de propiedad de la familia Ortega). La caracterización se centró principalmente en aves y herpetos.
