S-Index Interpretation
The S-Index (Sharing Index) is a comprehensive metric that represents the cumulative impact of all your datasets. It is calculated as the sum of Dataset Index scores across all your claimed datasets.
What it means:
- A higher S-index indicates greater overall impact of your datasets relative to typical datasets in their fields of research
- The S-Index grows as you add more datasets or as existing datasets gain more citations and mentions
- It provides a single number to track your research data impact over time
Current S-Index: 1.4 (sum of 4 datasets Dataset Index scores)

At the end of the Joseon Dynasty, Subak's successors all died of old age. It is difficult to inherit the national cultural heritage and hand it down to descendants through individual efforts alone. We all need to take care of it and preserve it.As with arts that have been handed down by the people, there are no written records related to the genealogy of Subak and Subak Dance. However, it is possible to look into the context after the late Joseon Dynasty.Subak successor, Song Chang-ryeol(1932 ~ 2017)Song Chang-yeol wanted to become a movie star in his youth, and it is said that he stayed for a while in a place called ‘Shin-Film’, which was directed by Shin Sang-ok.It seems that he is a former movie star, as he has appeared in several films, including a minor role in the movie “The Martyr” directed by Yoo Hyeon-mok. This person's maternal uncle is director Choi Hyun-min, who planned a movie called 'Sorrow in the Sky', which turned half of the Korean peninsula into a sea of tears in 1965.Song Chang-ryeol was born in February 1932 in Bukcheong-gun, Hamgyeongnam-do. In 1938, his father ran the 'Ohara Sewing Association' in Osaka, Japan. From 1938 to 40 he lived in Osaka. He later moved from Japan to Kaesong, Joseon.

In the dictionary of folk terms, it is called subakchigi, a martial art practiced by military officials during the Goryeo Dynasty.Traces remain in the national intangible cultural property Pilbong Pungmulgut. It is called the game of sitting in two lines and clapping your hands.According to Shin Chae-ho, subak in Songdo (Kaesong) is a tradition of Goguryeo military officers. Subak came to China and became a martial art, then came to Japan and became judo, and its origin is said to be old.In the case of North Korea, it seems that only the subak dance and the subak play remain among the various types of subak.Surroundings of subak and similar cultures are salpan's kicking, military's subak, Jindo's hand hitting during Ganggangsullae, and North Korea's foot dance (dance performed by military officers in Dancheon, Hamgyeong-do). Bakpan dance (turning over and rubbing, shoulder dance with arms wide open is said to be characteristic) of the Kaesong regionSong Chang-ryeol (1932-2017), whose hometown is Bukcheong-gun, Hamgyeongnam-do, trained in subak in Kaesong, Gyeonggi-do in the early 1940s.It was already formed before the modern era (before the 1910s) (sometimes recorded as 'Subyeok' in Jeongjo of Joseon) and developed and passed down as a folk sport and martial art with regional characteristics. Cheon Il-ryong passed it on to Song Chang-ryeol, and the present Korea Subak Association has continued.Subak is one of the few traditional Korean martial arts that can be recognized for its historical, traditional, academic, and regional characteristics, and urgent measures are needed for preservation and transmission. Before the Japanese colonial period, in addition to Nalparam and Headbutting in Pyongyang, fistfights in Hamgyeong-do, subakchigi in Gaeseong, and Taekkyeon in Seoul were famous.Around Nammuntong (market) near Namsan Mountain in Kaesong, there were many Gaeseong merchants who dominated the commercial district at the time.According to Song Chang-ryeol's testimony, the gangsters who mainly used fists belonged to Sangindan, and usually fought duels on New Year's Day or certain days, and it was very similar to that.People in Gaeseong presumed that Hanyang, which had been Seoul centered on Gaeseong (Songdo) until modern times, must have had the pride of 'go down', and even came up with a slang saying 'If you touch a merchant in Gaeseong, you will die'.In the case of recently known Taekkyeon, there is an opinion in the academic world that this subak is an example of diversification. Taekkyeon was limited to Seoul, but in the case of Subak, it can be seen as a mainstream Korean martial art that influenced the Nalparam technique of Pyeongando, the capital of Goguryeo. It is regrettable that this martial art, which was mainly seen in Kaesong only half a century ago, is moving away from our people through the era of liberation and war.

muyedobotongji, published during the reign of King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty, is currently listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in North Korea. It was registered as a documentary heritage, and it is a cultural heritage that was designated as Seoul Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 51 in 2019 by the Seoul Metropolitan Government Department of History and Culture. As a field expert, the author cross-validated through substantial and technical comparisons. There are several movements that do not appear in Cheok Gye-gwang's Gihyosinseo in muyedobotongji and previous translations of martial arts.Muyedobotongji was reconstructed by subjectively accepting Chinese martial arts in Joseon.Muyedobotongji Kwonbeop is standardized like Taekwondo Poomsae so that two people practice each movement according to a certain order, and the things traditionally performed in our military camp are loaded together.

Taekkyeon has a practice system similar to Japanese karate-do, but Subak is different. Compared to that, Korean wrestling is the most similar.Learn basic movements, muscle strength, and how to use your body, and learn individual skills repeatedly.Afterwards, the two face each other and naturally practice the movements they used to do alone.Subak (Martial Arts) and Subak Dance have the same basicWhen dancing, pretending to grab the opponent's waist and twisting it to make it fall, and hitting one's body here and there is meaningful in showing off training and strength.Hitting the body becomes hitting the opponent's body, and hitting the palm becomes hitting the opponent's shoulder or side.Even when dancing, the fighting is reproduced, and the movements at this time are martial arts.Depending on the purpose, there is improvisation expressed in martial arts or dance. It is important to train the technical system to increase strength (pressure) based on the Jeolgujil and transfer it to the extremities such as arms and legs.Crab walking, which is space movement, and ground stomping, which sustains power, are easy to understand if you think of old-fashioned military training. When you hit an opponent with your hands or kick them, do it like a push. The reason is that Subak is different from Western-style boxing or Japanese karate-do in terms of strength.
