S-Index Interpretation
The S-Index (Sharing Index) is a comprehensive metric that represents the cumulative impact of all your datasets. It is calculated as the sum of Dataset Index scores across all your claimed datasets.
What it means:
- A higher S-index indicates greater overall impact of your datasets relative to typical datasets in their fields of research
- The S-Index grows as you add more datasets or as existing datasets gain more citations and mentions
- It provides a single number to track your research data impact over time
Current S-Index: 0.6 (sum of 2 datasets Dataset Index scores)

The data sets available through this page were generated through the "Seabird 3D Distribution and Relative Risk from California Offshore Wind Turbines" project, which was funded by the California Energy Commission under contract EPC-19-011. The project involved collaboration between the Schatz Energy Research Center at Cal Poly Humboldt and H. T. Harvey & Associates. The data sets includes density estimates of 45 seabird species, both as annual avaerages and seasonal density estimates for each of the Oceanographic seasons. Please reffer to the 3D Seabird reports at schatz center-wind for methods and interpretation notes for this data. The first interim project report has the most detailed record. Description of Data Files:The included 3 shape files contains density estimates for 45 bird species in units of Count / Square Kilometer."Annual Seabird Density Estimates" - contains average annual bird density estimates for all elevations and for elevations above 10m."Seasonal Seabird Density Esitmate All elevations" - Contains bird density estimate by oceanographic season for all elevations."Seasonal Seabird Density Esitmate Above 10m" - Contains bird density estimate by oceanographic season for elevations above 10m. Each field name contains a 4 letter code which indicates the bird species, The included file "Species Codes.csv" contains these 4 letter species codes along with Common and Latin Names. For Seasonal estimates a single letter to indicate the oceanographic seasons is includedU - upwellingD - DavidsonO - Oceanianic If the field name ends in "_10m" estimates represent bird densities above 10m if this code is missing density estimates include birds at any hieght are included.
