AbstractIntroduction: Antibiotic resistance (ABR) is a growing public health concern, particularly in developing countries like Somalia. Medical students play a crucial role in future antimicrobial stewardship. Understanding their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding antibiotic use and resistance is essential in addressing this issue.Objective: This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of medical students at East Africa University, Bosaso, regarding antibiotic use and resistance.Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 254 medical students at East Africa University, Bosaso. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to antibiotic use and resistance. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data.Results: The study found that 59.7% of students demonstrated good knowledge regarding antibiotic use and resistance, while 46.8% had a positive attitude towards antibiotic use. However, only 43.6% reported good practices. Notably, 60.2% of students admitted to purchasing antibiotics without a prescription, and 58.7% used leftover antibiotics without consulting a doctor.Conclusion: While medical students exhibited a satisfactory level of knowledge, gaps in attitudes and practices highlight the need for enhanced educational interventions.
