HIPPO Merged 10-Second Meteorology, Atmospheric Chemistry, and Aerosol Data. Version 1.0 (Version: 1.0)

This data set provides the merged 10-second data product of meteorological, atmospheric chemistry, and aerosol measurements from all Missions, 1 through 5, of the HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) study of carbon cycle and greenhouse gases. The Missions took place from January of 2009 to September 2011. All of the data are provide in one space-delimited format ASCII file. The 10-second merged data product was derived by combining the NSF/NCAR GV aircraft navigation and atmospheric structure parameters for position, time, temperature, pressure, wind speed, etc., reported at 1-second frequency, with meteorological, atmospheric chemistry and aerosol measurements made by several teams of investigators on a common time and position basis. Investigators reported most continuously measured parameters at a 1-second interval. The 1 second measurements were aggregated with a median filter to 10 seconds. The fast-sample GC and whole air sample measurements reported at the greater than 10 second intervals (15-120 seconds including processing time) were aggregated to the most representative 10 second sample interval. A supplementary file is provided with this product that summarizes the completeness of the reported data values (HIPPO_10s_meta_summary.tbl). The completeness entries are the number of non-missing observations for each species in the main data file for each mission and in total. The data are provided in one space-delimited format ASCII file. Note that EOL Version 1.0 corresponds to R. 20121129 previously served by ORNL.

HIPPO Pressure-Weighted Mean Total, 10-km, and 100-m Interval Column Concentrations. Version 1.0 (Version: 1.0)

This dataset contains the total column and vertical profile data for all Missions, 1 through 5, of the HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) study of carbon cycle and greenhouse gases. The pressure-weighted mean column concentrations of parameters reported in this data set are estimates of the quantities that would be observed from a total column instrument at the top of each profile, i.e., from an airplane looking down or from a satellite. The Missions took place from 08 January 2009 to 08 September 2011. There are five spacedelimited format ASCII files included with this data set that have been compressed into one *.zip file for convenient download. Please refer to the readme for more information. The EOL Version 1.0 data set was created in 2012 and previously served as R. 20121129 by ORNL.

HIPPO NOAA Flask Sample GHG, Halocarbon, and Hydrocarbon Data. Version 1.0 (Version: 1.0)

This data set provides a NOAA flask sample oriented data product of meteorological, atmospheric chemistry, and aerosol measurements from all Missions, 1 through 5, of the HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) study of carbon cycle and greenhouse gases. The Missions took place from January of 2009 to September 2011. This data set provides atmospheric concentrations of CO2, CH4, CO, H2, N2O, halocarbon, hydrocarbon, and sulfur-containing trace gases from flask samples collected with the NOAA/ESRL Programmable Flask Package. Flask samples were analyzed on the NOAA/GMD Measurement of Atmospheric Gases that Influence Climate Change (MAGICC) instrument system and the NOAA/GMD GC/mass spectrometric instrument. Results from 1,374 flask samples are reported. For this data set, the flask sample results were joined with selected variables from concurrent 1-second data. The merging was accomplished by first subsetting and then averaging the 1-second observations corresponding to the fill time range for individual flask samples (e.g., UTSTART_M2 to UTSTOP_M2). This data file is better for instrument comparisons than files constructed by inserting flask values at a single mean fill time observation data file. A supplementary file is provided with this product that summarizes the completeness of the reported data values (PFP_meta_summary.tbl). The completeness entries are the number of non-missing observations for each species in the main data file for each mission and in total. The number of observation given for species observations per mission. The data are provided in one space-delimited format ASCII file. The EOL Version 1.0 data set was created in 2012 and previously served as R. 20121129 by ORNL.

HIPPO MEDUSA Flask Sample Trace Gas And Isotope Data. Version 1.0 (Version: 1.0)

This data set provides atmospheric trace gas concentrations of flask samples collected with the Multiple Enclosure Device for Unfractionated Sampling of Air (MEDUSA) on Missions 1 - 5 of the HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) of the Carbon Cycle and Greenhouse Gases Study. The Missions took place from January of 2009 to September 2011. For HIPPO, MEDUSA served as a discretely-sampled comparison for onboard (in-situ) measurements of CO2. MEDUSA flask sample results were joined with selected variables from concurrent Merged 1-second data (cite 1-second). This product accounts for flask fill dynamics by aggregating the 1-second data by weighted averages according to the sample kernel for each flask. Values in this file are identical to those in the discrete file, but are presented here for MEDUSA flasks alone, with additional MEDUSA diagnostic information, and without a correction for the Scripps-NOAA CO2 scale offsets. A supplementary file is provided with this product that summarizes the completeness of the reported data values (MEDUSA_meta_summary.tbl). The completeness entries are the number of non-missing observations for each species in the main data file for each mission and in total. The EOL Version 1.0 data set was created in 2012 and previously served as R. 20121129 by ORNL.

HIPPO-1 Merged 1-second Meteorology, Atmospheric Chemistry, and Aerosol Data. Version 1.0 (Version: 1.0)

This data set provides merged 1-second data products from Mission 1 of the HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) of the Carbon Cycle and Greenhouse Gases Study. Mission 1 took place during January of 2009. These merged data products were derived by combining the NSF/NCAR G-V aircraft state parameters for position, time, temperature, pressure, and wind speed with meteorological, atmospheric chemistry and aerosol measurements made by several teams of investigators. Investigators reported most data at a 1-second interval. The data files are in space delimited format. The NCAR/EOL Research Aviation Facility has recently completed a review and upgrade of its existing algorithms for data processing to incorporate recent improvements that have become available for specific instruments. HIPPO-2 LRT data have been reprocessed and rereleased with these new upgrades. For more info see the Appendix to HIPPO-II Project Manager's Report: Reprocessing. PLEASE NOTE: The updated LRT data are NOT included in this merge.
