Processed multichannel seismic data off Taiwan, acquired during R/V Marcus G. Langseth expedition MGL0906 (2009) as part of the Taiwan Integrated GEodyamics Research project (TAIGER) (Version: 1)

This was the second of four expeditions that surveyed the northern Philippine Sea and the area around Taiwan in support of the TAIGER project, a collaborative project between U.S. and Taiwanese scientists. Legs MGL0905, MGL0906, and MGL0908 used the seismic source array on the R/V Langseth to acquire deep-penetration seismic reflection data and to provide seismic source signals to be recorded by ocean bottom seismographs (OBSs) and seismic instruments on land in Taiwan. The OBSs which recorded the seismic signals during these legs were deployed by various Taiwanese ships and operated by Taiwanese groups and an OBS group from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (the U.S. OBS pool). Leg MGL0907 was dedicated to recovering broadband OBSs, previously deployed in May 2008 (cruise MGLN-38MV of the R/V Melville). Its main objective to study the Taiwan orogen, this leg focused on providing seismic source points to OBSs and land instruments as well as recording MCS data.

Legs MGL0905, MGL0906, and MGL0908 used the seismic source array on the R/V Langseth to acquire deep-penetration seismic reflection data and to provide seismic source signals to be recorded by ocean bottom seismographs (OBSs) and seismic instruments on land in Taiwan. The OBSs which recorded the seismic signals during these legs were deployed by various Taiwanese ships and operated by Taiwanese groups and an OBS group from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (the U.S. OBS pool). Leg MGL0907 was dedicated to recovering broadband OBSs, previously deployed in May 2008 (cruise MGLN-38MV of the R/V Melville). Its main goals were to acquire OBS data along the primary TAIGER transects T1 and T2 south of Taiwan and to acquire MCS, OBS, and potential field data across the poorly-surveyed northwestern portion of the Philippine Sea tectonic plate. 91 OBS stations were deployed during this cruise.

Processed multichannel seismic data collected off Taiwan, acquired during the R/V Maurice Ewing survey EW9509 (1995) (Version: 1)

This cooperative project was supported by scientists at four U.S. institutions and the Institute of Oceanography of the National Taiwan University. The project used the R/V Maurice Ewing to shoot and collect seismic reflection data and the R/V Ocean Researcher I (ORI429) to shoot and collect six deep refaction lines. The purpose was to obtain detailed new information with which to examine Taiwan crustal structure and the collision process. Funded by NSF grants OCE94-16583, OCE94-17415, OCE94-17411, OCE94-17414, OCE95-13945.
