Project: Climate Model Simulations at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht - Centre for Materials and Coastal Research - The hindcast simulations were conducted as contribution to the Helmholtz Climate Initiative REKLIM (Regional Climte Change), a joint research project of the Helmholtz Association of German research centres (HGF). http://www.reklim.de/ Summary: These are two atmospheric hourly hindcasts for Siberia using COSMO-CLM (CCLM) version 4.8_clm_11 with spectral nudging. The hindcast CCLM_sib_NCEP1 covers a period from 1948-2010 and has been performed using NCEP-R1 Reanalysis as global atmospheric forcing for the initialization and regional boundaries. The hindcast CCLM_sib_ERA40 was driven by ERA-40 from 1959-2001. CCLM uses a rotated grid with 76 x 76 grid points (without the sponge zone) and a grid point distance of 0.44 degrees, the rotated North pole is located at 75 W, 35 N. In rotated coordinates the model area extends from 14.72 W to 18.28 E, 9.72 S to 27.68 N, in geographical coordinates this corresponds to about 41.2 W to 174.9 E, 42 N to 82.7 N. Project: coastDat-2 - CoastDat-2 (http://www.coastdat.de/about_us/index.php) comprises a compilation of coastal analyses (that is hindcasts and reconstructions) and scenarios for the future obtained from numerical models. The atmospheric part of the dataset is simulatated using the COSMO-CLM (http://www.clm-community.eu). The objective is to provide a consistent meteo-marine data set. Summary: This is an atmospheric hourly hindcast for Western Europe and the North Atlantic using COSMO-CLM version 4.8_clm_11 with spectral nudging from 1948-2012. The model uses a rotated grid with 254 x 248 grid points and a grid point distance of 0.22 degrees, the rotated North pole is located at 170 W, 35 N. In rotated coordinates the model area extends from 30.44 W to 25.22 E, 25.72 S to 28.62 N, in geographical coordinates this corresponds to about 68 W to 82 E, 25.6 N to 81.4 N.

Project: CLM regional climate model runs forced by the global IPCC scenario runs - These regional climate simulations have been funded by the BMBF and computed at DKRZ by the group "Model and Data" of MPI-M, Hamburg, in close cooperation with BTU Cottbus, HZG Geesthacht and PIK Potsdam. Serving as community model, the climate version of the local model (CLM) of the DWD was used to simulate the regional climate of the 20th century (1960-2000) and 21st century (2001-2100) in Europe. The regional model runs are forced by the global IPCC scenario runs ( A1B and B1 ,http://www.grida.no/climate/ipcc/emission/index.htm ) with different assumptions regarding the development of global greenhouse gas concentrations to explore future developments in the European climate on a regional scale. CLM (see http://www.clm-community.eu/index.php?menuid=198 ) was run in non hydrostatic mode with 0.165 degree horizontal grid resolution and was forced 6 hourly by the output of the global climate model runs with ECHAM5/MPIOM. The climate of the 20th century was simulated by three 20th century realization runs, set off at different initialization times. For storage in and download from this data base, the data has been transformed into time series of single model variables and is provided in two data streams (referenced as "data stream 2" and "data stream 3"). Data stream 2 is given on a rotated grid with 0.165 deg. spatial resolution. Data stream 3 is projected onto a non-rotated grid with 0.2 deg. spatial resolution (usual geographical coordinates). For the data transformation between the respective grids the cdo-routines have been used. Summary: The experiment CLM_B1_2_D3 contains European regional climate simulations of the years 2001-2100 on a regular geographical grid. The data are generated during post processing of the corresponding data stream 2 experiment (CLM_B1_2_D2) of regional climate model runs (CLM non hydrostatic, see http://www.clm-community.eu ). It is forced by the second (2) run of the global IPCC scenario B1 (EH5-T63L31_OM-GR1.5L40_B1_2_6H), which describes a possible future world with global population peaking in mid-century and rapid change in economic structures towards a service and information economy. An introduction of clean and resource efficient technologies was assumed. In data stream 3 (_D3) the output variables of CLM data stream 2 and some additionally derived parameters are stored as time series on a regular geograhical grid (0.2 deg. hor. res.). The transformation has been done via CDO routines. Please note, that none of the variables has been corrected for topographical differences between the two grids. The model domain of data stream 3 covers the European region starting at 34.6/-10.6 (lat/lon, centre of lower left grid box) with an increment of 0.2 degree. The number of grid points is 177/238 (lat/lon). For some model variables and additionally derived parameters some statistics on daily, monthly or yearly basis are available. The simulations of the 20th century (1960-2000) have been forced by the first (1) run of the global 20th century climate (EH5-T63L31_OM-GR1.5L40_20C_1_6H) with observed anthropogenic forcing. In data stream 2 (_D2) the output variables of CLM are stored as time series on a rotated grid. The model region starts at -20.8725/-23.7275 (lat/lon in rotated coordinates; centre of lower left grid box) with an increment of 0.165 degree. The position of the North Pole in the rotated grid is: 39.25/-162.0 (lat/lon). The number of grid points is 255/241 (lat/lon). The sponge zone (numerically unreliable boundary grid points) of the original model output has been cut off. The regional model variables include two-dimensional near surface fields, as well as soil and atmospheric fields on different layers. The soil fields are simulated on 10 different levels with a maximum depth of 15 meters. The atmospheric fields are given on 6 pressure levels (200, 500, 700, 850, 925 and 1000 hPa).
