S-Index Interpretation
The S-Index (Sharing Index) is a comprehensive metric that represents the cumulative impact of all your datasets. It is calculated as the sum of Dataset Index scores across all your claimed datasets.
What it means:
- A higher S-index indicates greater overall impact of your datasets relative to typical datasets in their fields of research
- The S-Index grows as you add more datasets or as existing datasets gain more citations and mentions
- It provides a single number to track your research data impact over time
Current S-Index: 1.6 (sum of 1 dataset Dataset Index scores)

Project Description This dataset supported a detailed examination of driver behavioral data to investigate how crash potential and driver speed selection are related to posted speed limit and other driver, traffic, and roadway characteristics. Data Request Scope The following four sets of events are included in this dataset: Events on Two-Lane Highways: These events were found by constructing filters on the InSight query builder (InSight website). This combination of filters identified 544 crash, 629 near-crash, and 6,305 balanced-sample baseline events available as of May 20, 2016. Traffic Flow = “Not divided – simple 2-way trafficway” AND Contiguous Travel Lanes = 2 Events on Freeways and Multi-Lane Highways: These events were found by constructing filters on the InSight query builder. This combination of filters identified 216 crashes, 855 near-crashes, and 7135 balanced-sample baseline events in the InSight Database. Traffic Flow = “Divided (median strip or barrier)” AND Contiguous Travel Lanes = 2 OR 3 OR 4 Events at Curve Advisory Signs: ISU identified 135 LinkIDs from the Roadway Information Database (RID) where advisory speed limits were present along horizontal curves. From these LinkIDs, the dataset includes data for a total of 1,249 traversals. Events at Speed Transition Zones: ISU also identified 185 LinkIDs from the RID where speed limits changed from a higher limit to a lower limit, and vice versa. From these LinkIDs, the dataset includes data for a total of 1785 events. Data Specification The datasets consisted of the following InSight tables: Event Table (for crashes, near-crashes, and baselines): For the variable list please see EventTableDataDictionary.pdf. Trip Summary Table: For the variable list please see TripSummariesDataDictionary.pdf. Vehicle Table: For the variable list please see VehicleDetailDataDictionary.pdf. Driver Demographic Questionnaire: For the variable list please see VehicleAndDriverSurveyDataDictionary.pdf. Driving History Questionnaire: For the variable list please see VehicleAndDriverSurveyDataDictionary.pdf. Driver Behavior Questionnaire: For the variable list please see VehicleAndDriverSurveyDataDictionary.pdf. Risk Perception Questionnaire: For the variable list please see VehicleAndDriverSurveyDataDictionary.pdf. Risk Taking Questionnaire: For the variable list please see VehicleAndDriverSurveyDataDictionary.pdf. Driving Knowledge Survey: For the variable list please see VehicleAndDriverSurveyDataDictionary.pdf. The datasets also included the following Time Series variables (latitude and longitude were not provided for crash events): vtti.timestamp FILE_ID vtti.speed_gps vtti.speed_network vtti.accel_x vtti.accel_y vtti.gyro_z vtti.pedal_gas_position vtti.steering_wheel_position vtti.pedal_brake_state vtti.latitude vtti.longitude
