Description

The CM-CRT dataset contains information on 1,446 events of civic mobilization during 72 transitions initiated through civil resistance from 1945 to 2019. The transitions were selected from Jonathan Pinckney's Civil Resistance Transitions dataset. CM-CRT's unit of observation is the individual mobilization event. Events are coded in a CAMEO-style Actor-Action-Target structure, with numerous supplemental variables capturing more specific aspects of the event, including participation size, diversity, and government response. This repository contains the project codebook, the events dataset, and a summary of the events at the transition level. Additional supplemental information, including project lab notebooks, are available from USIP's Program on Nonviolent Action upon request.Version 1.0 of the data was collected by the Foundation for Inclusion (FFI) under a contract with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). USIP commissioned the data collection as part of its "New Frontiers in Understanding Nonviolent Action Movements" initiative, an inter-agency agreement with the Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG) center at USAID. The data is freely available for any non-commercial purpose.
