Description
Data which were created during the research in the ornamentation of the Mesolithic harpoon head from the Police archaeological site in Pomerania, NW Poland. They were developed during the work on an article which describes the application of X-ray computed tomography to the recording and analysis of ornaments on the Mesolithic harpoon found at Police in NW Poland, entitled "APPLICATION OF COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY TO THE STUDY OF MESOLITHIC PORTABLE ART: RESULTS, INTERPRETATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS – THE CASE OF AN ORNAMENTED ROE DEER ANTLER HARPOON FROM POLICE, NE POLAND". The article was submitted to the journal "Archaeometry". The geometric ornament was divided into eight areas, of which seven were analysed. Based on the tomographic data, a method of quantitative analysis of ornaments was proposed. For lines selected in individual areas, three profiles were determined for which the width, depth and opening angle of the ornament lines were measured. The analysis of these data revealed a degree of variation, dependent on the engraving technique and the instrument used to make the ornament. Some of the data presented here are incorporated into the paper, the others supplement those which were included in the article.
