Description

Watercolour medical illustration depicting disease of the knee joint. It has the alternative reference number 1090, P19A and 266 on the front. There is no Richmond Hospital Museum reference. The artist's name is in the bottom right corner 'J. Connolly Del.t' and in the bottom left 'J.s Sheridan Aet 27'. The typescript note under the illustration reads 'Acute Inflammation of the Knee Joint'. The handwritten note on the back reads 'Acute & most intense inflammation of the knee joint, which contained a large quantity of purulent matter, the synovial membrane, or [?] the most acutely inflamed [?] has encroached upon the cartilaginous surfaces. Cartilages softened & discoloured. Amputation'. The very feint note at the bottom reads 'Inflammat.n of synovial membrane of knee joint'.
