<b>DEPA – South Africa Audio Soundscapes and Interviews</b>

The primary objective of the Soundscapes Project was to capture and analyse the sonic representations of peace and conflict in the inner-city suburbs of Johannesburg, South Africa. The project invited local artists to curate soundscapes that reflected the dual themes of peace and conflict, giving them a platform to express their individual and collective experiences. Each soundscape was a carefully woven tapestry of emotions and stories, encapsulating the tension and harmony that characterizes life in these vibrant communities.The 36 files in this item are the audio recordings of soundscapes and interviews with participants on their experiences of being a part of the project, xenophobia, peace and conflict in the community. 22 audio files, 14 word transcriptsThe South Africa Project was one of the original Proof of Concept projects with DEPA (Decolonising Education for Peace in Africa). DEPA was a 4 year project funded by the Arts and Humanities Council (AHRC) addressing the question: What are the different knowledges and values underpinning peace and how can these practices be connected and compared across countries to create curriculum content and mode of delivery in informal and formal settings, Secondary and Higher Education (HE), in order to decolonise peace education?
