2 photographs of a hand-printed sign in a store window, Los Angeles, California, 1939 December 29. "Subject: Sign on linen store - 622 So[uth] Hill St[reet]." "Client: Better Business Bureau, Mr. Jennings, 742 So[uth] Hill; Original print order: 1 ea[ch]; Size: 8x10; Finish: gl[ossy]; Year: 1939; Job no. 912-29-219" -- on envelope front. "Operator's report -- name: Jack; 2 original photographs -- size 8x10; In City; Amount: 4.00" -- on envelope back. "Date: Fri[day]; Job: Island case between windows has paper sign on it. Red letters near bottom of sign are important; use color blind film" -- on job card. Sign in window reads: "You are all aware of conditions created by the European and Asiatic Wars. As we are dependent upon China for hand embroidery and upon Ireland for raw linens, neither of which is produced here, we find it impossible to remain in the importing business and must turn to another market. We are not going out of business but must sell out all handmade imported linens, cost being no objective."
