Description

6 photographs of the tugboat Arthur Foss towing the ship Commodore Johnson, USA, 1936 February 17. "Client: Union Oil Co[mpany], Sneddon; Classifications: M - shipping" -- on envelope front. "Operator's report, name: 'Dick' [Whittington]; 6 original photographs; Amount: $20.00" -- on envelope back. The negative envelope indicates that the Whittington studio fulfilled 7 print orders. Editor's note: During a brief period of ownership by MGM, this tugboat was renamed the Narcissus and played that role in the movie "Tugboat Annie." The Arthur Foss was eventually moored at the Maritime Heritage Center in Seattle and later declared a National Landmark.
