Description

5 photographs: two people with a seaplane in a shelter, a seaplane poised on the water, and the plane partly underwater as if crashed, Newport Beach, California, 1937 April 14. "Client: Newport Harbor C[hamber] of C[ommerce]" "The first is a film of the Seaplane used by Glenn Martin . . . Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce, [signed by] Harry Welch" -- on envelope. Editor's note: the original date of the photographs of which these are copy negatives is unknown, but these might be from 1912 (when Martin won a prize for flying from the Newport Beach harbor to Catalina Island) or 1913 (when Martin crashed his seaplane on the Great Lakes, but escaped from the wreckage and recovered the plane to continue a race).
