The aim of INSTANT (International Nusantara Stratification and Transport program) was to directly measure the flow of warm and fresh waters from the western equatorial Pacific into the South Indian Ocean via the Indonesian passages.The INSTANT project began in 2003 and was a 3-year deployment of mooring arrays and coastal pressure gauges that obtained in-situ velocity, temperature and salinity data from the sea-floor to the surface in the major inflow and outflow straits that make up the Indonesian choke point. The mooring array was designed to measure the mass, heat and freshwater transports that flow into and out of the Indonesian Seas. A total of 11 deep-ocean moorings were deployed within the major Indonesian inflow passages of Makassar Strait and Lifamatola Passage and the exit passages of Lombok Strait, Ombai Strait, and Timor Passage (See figure1.gif in 'Supporting Documentation').Users of data in this collection should reference the collection DOI and Sprintall, J., S.
