Description

The area integrations performed for each region of the superconductor area overlapping the magnetic pole piece field map. The regions were chose to keep the integrals simple with a minimal amount of overlap error. The file is in MS Word format to preserve the formulas for editing. There will be a pdf copy uploaded as well. General Description: The AC magnetic field required to levitate a 14 mm diameter CAN YBCO superconductor was characterized and compared to the DC field required to levitate the same superconductor. The measured DC magnetic field varied over the mangets pole piece. To arrive at the weighted average DC magnetic field applied to the superconductor, area of the overlap between the superconductor and each field strength region of the pole piece was calculated and used as a weighting factor for that field strength. The superconductor was divided into regions that allowed for simple area integrations to be performed while holding overalps to a minimum.
