Soil structure and surface runoff risk on fields of different cultivation methods in southern Finland, 2001 - 2005
View DatasetDescription
The data originate from national monitoring on the effects of the Finnish agri-environment support scheme (MYTVAS). The existence of areas covered by surface water, ponding water and wet soil were observed on fields in 13 private farms in 2001 - 2005. These are considered as indicators of poor soil structure. The farms located on clay and silt soils in southern and southwestern Finland. Different cultivation methods were compared: conventional tillage, conservation tillage, direct seeding and grass fallow or crop rotation including ley. The methods are described in the following publications: Eskelinen, J. & Alakukku, L. 2004. Maan rakenteen ja pintavaluntariskien arviointi (Evaluation of soil structure and surface runoff risk, in Finnish). In: Turtola, E. & Lemola, R. (ed.).
