Code for 'On the role of ocean dynamics in polar amplified climate change'

Shakespeare, Callum

Description

Matlab code to solve for zonal-mean ocean temperature via an advection-diffusion equation coupled to a forcing-feedback model for surface energy balance. The system is described in Shakespeare (2025), 'On the role of ocean dynamics in polar amplified climate change', submitted to J. Climate. To get started, simply run the script 'run_2Dmodel_dyn_dt.m', which has the default settings described in that paper. The initial run length is set to 10 years and should take ~60 seconds; about 20,000 years and 5000 timesteps are needed to reach steady stateAdditional effective optical depth data is provided to allow computations for other CO2 changes (default is a doubling from 280 to 560 ppm). This readme and code was written by Callum J.
