Factors That Encourage and Barriers to ICT Integration in Mathematics Teaching

Nobis, Jr., Martin

Description

In today's education landscape, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) play a crucial role in enhancing mathematics teaching and learning outcomes. This study examines the factors encouraging ICT integration among educators and the barriers that hinder effective implementation. Conducted among mathematics teachers and students at the University of Eastern Philippines Laoang Campus using universal sampling, the research employed a descriptive method and utilized a survey questionnaire, with statistical analysis performed using mean and standard deviation. Findings reveal that in-service education programs for instructional technologies and awards recognizing teachers' efforts in technology integration are key factors in integration, while financial constraints and the limited availability of computer laboratories and instructional software/electronic resources pose significant barriers in integration. To address these challenges, it is recommended that school administrators invest in and provide in-service training programs to enhance ICT integration in mathematics education.
