Neutron diffraction study on highly frustrated triangular lattice Ba3YbRu2O9
Description
The physics of frustration is always interesting to study as frustration brings various novel states like spin-ice, spin-liquid, and complex magnetic ordering. Here we propose to investigate the magnetic ordering in triangular lattice based highly frustrated Ba3YbRu2O9 through zero-field temperature-dependent neutron diffraction experiments using high-intensity and high-resolution WISH diffractometer. The magnetization data shows a magnetic transition at 4.3 K. Interestingly, two anomalies are detected in the specific heat data, one sharp at ~ 4.3 K and the other broad centered at 7.5 K. More interestingly, the Curie-Weiss fit of the magnetization data reveals high frustration with a frustration index of ~50. The proposed neutron diffraction experiments will reveal the expected complex Yb and Ru magnetic order and also shed light on the microscopic origin of the magnetic transitions in the strongly frustrated Ba3YbRu2O9 compound.
