Description

This repository holds the monthly records of global clear-sky land emissivity retrieved using combined observations from five passive microwave sensors operating in GPM era, namely, GPM-CO/GMI, Fengyun-3B/MWRI, Fengyun-3C/MWRI, Fengyun-3D/MWRI, and GCOM-W1/AMSR2. The project uses cloud mask data six geostationary visible and infrared imagers onboard three geostationary platforms, i.e. GOES-16/ABI, Himawari-8, -9/AHI, and MSG-1, -2, 3/SEVIRI. Sophisticated intercalibrations were applied to scale all emissivity subsets to be aligned with the GMI retrievals. The data were aggregated into 0.25 degree global equal lat-lon grids, spaning 2014 - 2023.Data descriptionThe data is stored in HDF5 scientific data format. For all sensors except for GMI, data are averaged seperately for ascending and descending orbits, filename follows the regulations:  Xcal_Emissivity_{Sensor}_{Orbit}_CMG5KM_{YYYYMM}.HDF5 Here, placeholders are specified with:Sensor: AMSR2, FY3B, FY3C, FY3D.Orbit: A for ascending orbit, D for descending orbit.YYYYMM: date like '202008'.For instance: 'Xcal_Emissivity_AMSR2_A_CMG5KM_201407.HDF5'For GMI, files are named like 'GMI_Emissivity_CMG5KM_202008.HDF5'.MetaThe HDF5 data meta are listed as follows:netcdf file:Xcal_Emissivity_FY3B_A_MWRI_CMG5KM_201401.HDF5 { variables: short emissivity(9, 720, 1440); :_FillValue = -9999; // int :desc = "Monthly mean emissivity, all samples"; :scale_factor = 1.0E-4f; // float :Channel = "10v,10h,19v,19h,23v,37v,37h,89v,89h"; short emissivity_snowfree(9, 720, 1440); :Channel = "10v,10h,19v,19h,23v,37v,37h,89v,89h"; :_FillValue = -9999; // int :desc = "Snow-free (snowc<10%) emissivity"; :scale_factor = 1.0E-4f; // float float latitude(720); :units = "degree_north"; float longitude(1440); :units = "degree_east"; short std(9, 720, 1440); :_FillValue = -9999; // int :scale_factor = 1.0E-4f; // float :Channel = "10v,10h,19v,19h,23v,37v,37h,89v,89h";}
