Description

Breeding and wintering bird distributions in Britain and Ireland derived from citizen science bird atlases during five periods: 1968–1972, 1988–1991 and 2008–2011, and the winters 1981/1982–1983/1984 and 2007/2008–2010/2011. This dataset accompanies this paper: Gillings, S., Balmer, D.E., Caffrey, B.J., Downie, I.S., Gibbons, D.W., Lack, P.C., Reid, J.B., Sharrock, J.T.R., Swann, R.L. & Fuller, R.J. 2019. Breeding and wintering bird distributions in Britain and Ireland from citizen science bird atlases. Global Ecology and Biogeography, 28: 866–874. DOI: 10.1111/geb.12906. Please refer to this paper for further information. We thank the tens of thousands of volunteers who have contributed to these atlases over six decades; without their dedication, these citizen science projects would have been impossible. The four atlas projects were funded through a combination of corporate and governmental sponsorship and charitable donations from members and supporters of the non‐governmental organization that conducted the projects [the British Trust for Ornithology, BirdWatch Ireland (formerly Irish Wildbird Conservancy) and the Scottish Ornithologists' Club].Please refer to the metadata for a more detailed description, and for information on dataset usage.........................................................................................We would also greatly appreciate if you could fill out this very short form to tell us how you intend to use these data. Thanks in advance!
