Description

This study examines the formation of imperative verb forms with the suffix -uy [uj]/[ʊj] in Old Russian and Old Church Slavonic. The author of this article pays particular attention to their origin from dialectal forms with the lexeme ∗ѹvati [ɐˈvatʲi], as well as the mechanisms of vowel alternation а/о/ѹ in pairs such as "duy" ↔ "duvat'" (to blow), and "kuy" ↔ "kovat'" (to forge).
