Description

Eight species of common lowland tropical rainforest tree seedlings from the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica were transplanted from the field and grown in a greenhouse for 4 months in field-collected homogenized soil. Seedlings span a range of foliar nitrogen concentrations and plant families. At harvest, the following data were collected: plant biomass, leaf number, height, number and biomass of root nodules, foliar nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus concentrations, root phosphtase enzyme activity, root mycorrhizal colonization, nitrogen fixation rate of root nodules. The purpose of the data was to look for relationships between foliar chemistry and investment in nutrient acquisition strategies.
