Magnetic structure of the Cd6Tb quasicrystal approximant

Description

We propose to revisit the Cd6Tb quasicrystal approximant, whose magnetic structure we could not determine 12 years ago, by X-ray magnetic diffraction. We thinkwe can do it now, due to a combination of factors: 1) a magnetic model has been proposed for the isostructural system Au-Al-Tb; 2) we plan a different experimentalmethod, i.e. azimuthal scans, which could not be performed during the previous measurements; 3) we are now able to deal with the complication of the structuralphase transition. Solving the magnetic structure of several quasicrystal approximants is necessary in order to understand the key ingredients to realise long-rangeantiferromagnetic order on a quasicrystal, and what it would be like.
