This dataset accompanies a study investigating how feeding history affects reproductive traits in chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus), exhibiting density-dependent population dynamics. It includes data from two complementary experiments: (1) a stable isotope tracer experiment assessing resource use for egg production in first-time and repeat spawners, and (2) a five-month controlled feeding experiment evaluating the effects of maternal nutrition on egg quality and larval performance. These data provide empirical support for a mixed capital–income breeding strategy and demonstrate the significant role of maternal nutritional history in shaping reproductive success.
