Description

The shot day NernstDynamo-EP-24A on the OMEGA EP laser at the LLE sought to measure the generation of azimuthal magnetic field from an axial magnetic field by a radial temperture gradient due to the thermoelectric effect. A plasma column with a radial temperature gradient in a magnetic field with an axial gradient was formed by laser heating neon gas in a cusp magnetic field, optimized for uniformity of the field gradient. The azimuthal magnetic field was measured with oblique proton probing. The experiment was simulated with the 3-D MHD code GORGON. The summary provides a description of the experiment and the data provided. The zipped folder contains the RCF data as scanned tiff files. The h5 file contains the essential simulation results.
