Description

“Jonathan, head boy, and a secondary yaws case.” Portrait of two men one of whom displays the ulceration symptomatic of Yaws. The disease was prevalent in the area but easily treated with a single injection. Dr Irvine wrote about the disease in his thesis for his degree from the University of Aberdeen. Jonathan is the head hospital assistant at the Tumutumu hospital. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the time that Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) spent at Tumutumu (1919-1921) and some of the early years at Chogoria.
