Description

Madras/Chennai, Tamil Nadu, South India. From Inauguration of the Women Students Christian Hostel on 3rd March 1973. Helga Olesen, so to speak single-handedly, obtained enough donations to build a small chapel in connection with the hostel. The chapel was inaugurated by Bishop Thorkild Græsholt, who had just taken part in an international church conference in Bangkok. This picture is from the inauguration of the chapel. Bishop Græsholt is standing to the left, and sitting from right to left are the Danish Ambassador to India, Mr. Henning Halck, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Mr. K. K. Shah, Mrs Halck, and Mrs Græsholt. Present were many other prominent guests, among them President of the Arcot Lutheran Church, Rev. Dorairaj Peter. Speeches by held by Ambassador H. Halck, Rev.Doriaraj Peter, and Governor K. K. Shah. The governor spoke for half an hour, and he was both amusing and very positive, which resulted in prolonged applause and rejoice. (Used in: Dansk Missionsblad no. 4-5/1973).
