Description

“Clean Christian home life, with its securities and comforts, its care for the children and love between husband and wife is undoubtedly a factor which attracts married natives who come to the station … Willie, our head teacher & Hannah & their child.” Group portrait of a family with the mother holding a small child. The man is probably Willie Kanini who trained as a teacher at Kikuyu and arrived two months after Dr Irvine. ❧ Image from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the early years of the Chogoria mission, established near Mt Kenya in 1922 and run by Dr Irvine, ministering to the Chuka and Mwimbi peoples.
