Description
In 2019, in the Portuguese general elections Joacine Katar Moreira (from the party Livre) was elected as an MP. Born in Guinea-Bissau, a former Portuguese colony, Moreira was the first black woman to lead a parliamentary party list into a Portuguese election. Due to these uncommon characteristics, and added to the fact that Moreira is a stutterer, this study contributes to the body of work on misogyny and sexism toward female politicians (VAWiP studies) on social networks by conducting a quantitative analysis with descriptive statistics and a qualitative content analysis investigating the comments made about her on Livre’s Facebook page.
