Description

This study involved a team of eight investigators from six UK universities (University of Manchester, Lancaster University, Loughborough University, Northumbria University, University of Strathclyde and University of Surrey). It aimed to increase understanding of public responses to renewable energy technologies, and looked at the local experience of resistance and consent, and ways in which public engagement is constructed and practised in the UK. <br> <br> The data available from the UK Data Archive includes a dataset with responses to a survey administrated in seven case study areas which were all sites of renewable energy projects around the UK with varying technologies (tidal, marine, bioenergy, offshore and onshore wind).<br> <br> The case study areas are:<br> <br> 1 - Llandudno and Colwyn Bay, North Wales<br> 2 - Strangford and Portaferry, Northern Ireland <br> 3 - Port Talbot, South Wales<br> 4 - Skegness, Lincolnshire and Hunstanton, Norfolk<br> 5 - Villages of Great Houghton, Hardingstone and Wootton in Northamptonshire and Falkirk, Scotland<br> 6 - St. Davids, Dale and Marloes in Pembrokeshire<br> 7 - Kilbirnie, Scotland<br> <br> Further information is available from the <a href="http://geography.exeter.ac.uk/beyond_nimbyism/index.shtml" title ="Beyond Nimbyism">Beyond Nimbyism</a> project web pages and the <a href="http://www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk/esrcinfocentre/viewawardpage.aspx?awardnumber=RES-152-25-1008-A" title ="ESRC Award">ESRC Award</a> web page.<br>
