Analysis code for "Response of atmospheric convection to surface drying: new insights from isentropic analysis"
Description
This repository contains the analysis code used to derive the results presented in Régibeau-Rockett and O'Neill (under review): "Response of atmospheric convection to surface drying: new insights from isentropic analysis". The code descriptions are as follows*: - RCE-check.ipynb checks for a steady state, as defined in the text, in all of our simulations- get_input_sounding_data.py can be used to derive the vertical profiles of potential temperature, water vapor mixing ratio, and x- and y- wind speed from our initial simulations. - get_input_sounding_tropopause.py obtains the values of the tropopause height and temperature in the same simulations- isentropic_analysis.py performs the isentropic analysis procedure described in the main text on our main and sensitivity simulations- TOA_budget.py computes the TOA energy budget for our main and sensitivity simulations- isentropic_analysis_PM.py is equivalent to isentropic_analysis.py but uses the entropy potential temperature and associated moist entropy of Marquet (2011, QJRMS) as described in the text.- Plots.ipynb makes all figures from the main text and supplemental materials * Note: Some of the files described here have not yet been uploaded to this repository. However, they will be made available soon.
