Global Dataset of Martian Aeolian Landform : Transverse Aeolian Ridges and Crater-associated Wind Streaks
View DatasetDescription
This dataset includes two key types of aeolian landforms: Transverse Aeolian Ridges (TARs) and crater-associated wind streaks. We applied the SegFormer (Xie et al., 2021) model to perform high-precision binary segmentation of TARs across the entire globe, resulting in the identification of over 90 million individual TARs features. Additionally, we utilized a YOLO (Jocher & Qiu, 2024) model to recognize approximately 24,000 crater-associated wind streaks. The morphology of these landforms records the dominant surface wind directions at the time of their formation, serving as crucial proxies for reconstructing Martian paleoclimate.Data Storage Formats:TARs (Binary Segmentation Results): These segmentation results are stored in a binary raster image format. Each raster file adheres to the naming convention established for the MurrayLab CTX imagery.Crater-associated Wind Streaks (Vector Data): This data is stored in a Shapefile format. The attribute table includes the following key fields: (1) lon: Longitude of the source impact crater center (decimal degrees); (2) lat: Latitude of the source impact crater center (decimal degrees); (3) direction: Orientation angle of the wind streak (degrees), referenced North as 0°and increasing clockwise; (4) length: Length of the aeolian streak (meters).
