Description

[Text Description:] The shallow dish is sitting on a narrow disc base. At one side a handle was carved from the tusk, and is carved in the shape of a bird's head. The curved beak resembles that of a bird of prey (hawk or eagle). ❧ [Text or Publication Number Note:] ZT 29615 ❧ [Excavation Description:] Ziyaret Tepe Archaeological Project, an international collaboration led by Prof. Tim Matney of the University of Akron, Ohio ❧ [Medium:] Ivory ❧ [Script Note:] Non-Text ❧ [Physical Object Description:] Fragmentary shallow lidded dish with one handle in shape of a bird's head. The ivory is burnt to a bluish to white color and has a powdery surface. About one quarter of the bowl and two third of the lid is missing. ❧ [Physical Object Note:] There are 14 small pieces likely belonging to the dish and 24 small pieces to the lid as well as 95 further minute fragments. The ivory is burnt differently. While some fragments are stable, others are brittle and/or soft. The surface is encrusted with soil.
