Spectral model fits associated with Morrissey et al. (2025) "Discovery of Seven Cold and Distant Brown Dwarfs with JWST RUBIES"
View DatasetDescription
This compilation includes the results of model fits to seven JWST brown dwarf spectra identified in the RUBIES survey (de Graaf et al. 2025) and reported in Morrissey et al. (2025). Included in this compilation are the following for each of seven brown dwarfs (BD-1 through BD-7):parameters.zip: zip file containing collection of excel files with file names mcmcfit_BD-[#][model][fit range]parameters.xlsx, each containing the parameter values for each chain step, as well as the chi-squared ("chis"), degrees of freedom ("dof"), optimal scale factor ("scale"), and estimated radius at 10 pc ("radius")mcmcfit_BD-[#][model][fit range].pdf: plot comparing the flux-calibrated spectrum to the best fit model (minimum chi-square), as well as residuals mcmccorner_BD-[#][model]_[fit range].pdf: plot visualizing the parameter distributions from the MCMC fits, with diagonal panels displaying the marginalized posterior distributions for individual parameters and the inner panels displaying contour plots of distributions marginalized over parameter pairs to illustrate correlations. [model] is the model use for the fit:dback24: Sonora Diamondback (Morley et al. 2024)elfowl24: Sonora Elf Owl (Mukherjee et al. 2024)sand24: Spectral ANalog of Dwarfs (SAND; Gerasimov et al. 2024, Alvarado et al. 2024)[fit range] is the fitting range used for the fitNIR: 0.9–2.4 μmJWST-NIRSPEC-PRISM: 0.9–5.1 μm (full range for NIRSpec/Prism data)All fits were conducted using the package ucdmcmc version 1.1.2 (Burgasser et al. 2025); see https://zenodo.org/records/17202653 Please cite the original paper Morrissey et al.
