2,366 new mitochondrial genomes with preliminary identification and phylogeny of >5,500 putative species of beetles
Description
This dataset contains 2,366 newly assembled beetle mitochondrial genomes from Panama and Borneo, generated using pooled-DNA genome skimming and multiple assembly pipelines. These sequences were combined with > 3,000 re-annotated GenBank mitogenomes, producing a phylogenetic dataset comprising 5,518 beetles and 9 outgroups, representing nearly all major coleopteran lineages and 145 families. The package includes:GenBank flatfiles (mmg_5527.gb) for all assembled full or partial mitogenomesA maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree (!!phy_6k_5527_NTBIN_RN_Aug25_noSci_pipe.tree) with 5,527 terminalsMetadata (Metadata.xlsx) including unique specimen IDs, morphospecies labels, locality information, and provisional taxonomy2,246 beetle images (images2246.zip) referenced via specimen codes and taxonomic assignmentsBackbone constraint tree (Constraint_CERNedit.tree) enforcing 9 outgroups and 80 basal Coleoptera nodes derived from consensus phylogenomic studiesThis dataset provides a standardized, large-scale mitogenomic resource for biodiversity research, phylogenetics, and comparative analyses of Coleoptera.
