Description

This dataset contains information collected through the VarScout mobile application as part of the National Native Potato Monitoring Contest 2025, conducted across Peru using a citizen science approach involving farmers, native potato guardians, youth, and local technicians. The monitoring aimed to document the diversity, geographic distribution, and conservation status of native potato varieties, strengthening participatory agrobiodiversity monitoring nationwide. The dataset includes 2,422 field observations corresponding to 1,671 unique native potato varieties, primarily identified by local names reported by farmers, with records covering multiple regions of the Peruvian highlands. Each observation includes standardized data such as variety identification, location, date, and metadata captured via VarScout. All information and photographic records are publicly available through the WikiPapa platform (https://www.wikipapa.org/observaciones ). Participant data have been anonymized in accordance with ethical and data protection standards.
