Description

This dataset provides long-term, quality-controlled rainfall fluctuation time series derived from heated rain gauges across the Veneto region (Italy). The data originate from 5-minute rainfall observations with a 0.2 mm quantization.A total of 71 stations are included, each selected to have at least 30 years of observations and less than 1% missing or low-quality (flagged) values prior to imputation. The longest station record spans 39 years. Station elevations range from -3 m to 2042 m above sea level. The mean fraction of missing or flagged values before imputation is approximately 0.5%.The released data consist of standardized, dimensionless rainfall fluctuation time series and do not include the original raw precipitation measurements.1. File organizationdata/    Directory containing one CSV file per station. Each file is named [station_id].csv, where [station_id] is the station identifier, and contains the standardized rainfall fluctuation time series for that station.station_metadata.csv      File containing station metadata, including station ID, latitude, longitude, elevation (m), and record coverage.2. Data processing summaryMissing or flagged values are imputed independently for each station by randomly resampling observations from the same calendar date and the same 5-minute time-of-day across other years in that station’s record. This procedure is designed to preserve the temporal and seasonal characteristics of the original data. After imputation, each station time series is standardized to have zero mean and unit variance.3. Intended use and provenanceThese derived rainfall fluctuation series are intended to support reproducible analyses of precipitation variability, while complying with restrictions on redistribution of the underlying raw observations. The source raw precipitation data are provided by ARPA Veneto (https://www.arpa.veneto.it/) and are not redistributable by the authors. Access to the raw data is subject to ARPA Veneto’s data use conditions and must be requested directly from ARPA Veneto following their official access procedures.4.
