This dataset was collected through an online survey platform, Sojump (https://www.sojump.com/), from college students across various universities in China between November 2025 and January 2026. The primary goal of this research was to investigate the associations between upward social comparison, short video addiction, negative emotions, and psychological resilience. A total of 714 valid responses were obtained using a probability-based random sampling strategy to enhance sample representativeness. The dataset includes demographic variables (such as gender, age, grade level) and psychological constructs related to social comparison, emotional responses, and resilience. The key variables examined include upward social comparison as the independent variable, short video addiction as the outcome variable, negative emotions and psychological resilience as mediators. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings aim to provide insights into the emotional and psychological processes underlying short video addiction, with a focus on the interplay of social comparison, emotional distress, and psychological resources. This dataset is valuable for research in the fields of psychology, media studies, and behavioral addiction, particularly for studies aiming to understand the psychological dynamics associated with social media use and the potential for developing interventions targeting emotional resilience and healthy media consumption patterns.
