We investigate whether inflorescence photosynthesis enables Avena fatua to overcome a physiological trade-off between early vegetative senescence and prolonged reproductive investment, thereby achieving high fecundity. We hypothesize that inflorescence photosynthesis, supported by coordinated expression of photosynthetic and redox-regulatory genes, complements leaf photosynthesis to sustain assimilate supply throughout extended reproduction.
