UDIT Gamified Hackathon Questionnaire Responses (N=91)
View DatasetDescription
This dataset is the result of a questionnaire completed by students at the University of Design, Innovation, and Technology (UDIT) following their participation in a gamified hackathon organized as part of UDIT Mars Week. The hackathon involved designing and developing a 404 error page based on the story of Mayor Tom losing Mars from the Solar System when he attempted to land there. The dataset contains anonymized raw responses from 91 out of 213 university students (43% response rate) studying design-related degrees at UDIT. Data were collected via Microsoft Forms following the hackathon. Completion of the questionnaire was voluntary, and all data were anonymous. The hackathon incorporated project-based learning (PBL), challenge-based learning (CBL), and elements of gamification (a sci-fi narrative, time-limited team challenges, and competitive web prototypes).Data collected:Independent variables: degree program, academic year, and prior hackathon experience (categorical).12 Likert-scale items (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree) were assessed across five dimensions based on Self-Determination Theory, the Academic Motivation Scale, and the Motivated Learning Scale in University Students.Intrinsic motivation (autonomy/enjoyment): 4 itemsExtrinsic motivation (competition/rewards): 2 itemsPerceived competence: 3 itemsRelatedness/collaborative work: 1 itemSatisfaction/comparison: 2 items3 open-ended questions on the most motivating aspects, acquired skills, and suggestions for improvement.
