Flood in Portugal and Spain (2026-02-03)

National Command for Relief Operations-National Authority for Civil Protection

Description

Since 3 February 2026, a severe weather system has been affecting Portugal, bringing periods of heavy and persistent rainfall, strong winds, and significant maritime agitation, resulting in substantial hydrological impacts across several river basins. According to EFAS, a flash flood notification has been issued for the Alentejo Litoral region, with a high probability of exceeding the 5-year and 20-year return-period thresholds, and with several areas identified as susceptible to landslides. In this context, the activation of the Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping service is requested to provide flood extent and a damage assessment emergency mapping.
