Data Services Core Competencies Survey Validation

This study’s purpose is to study current professionals to validate core competencies for data curation. Data librarians, managers, stewards, curators, and others were surveyed. Job analysis survey of 21 questions gathered education and work background, as well as the most important, difficult, and frequent activities—to assess a set of core competencies. Upon IRB approval (UTK IRB-26-09343-XM) the survey launched in January of 2026.
