Description

SCRUB investigates, through poetic practice, the relationship between humans, language and ‘scrub’ plants and ecologies. This item contains photographs showing steps in creating the ‘SCRUB’ series of cyanotype language art prints produced during the August 2018 residency at Singing Apple Press. The ‘SCRUB’ series uses a digital negative created from scanned letterpressed text, with plant material from different sites in the Singing Apple Press garden. ‘Cherry’ is toned with the tannins from cherry cuttings, while ‘Bramble2’ is toned with blackberries and bramble cuttings. This item also contains photography showing the creation of the ‘Portraits of Severed Plants’ series of cyanotype language art prints produced during the August 2018 residency at Singing Apple Press. Other images of the series are in the item for the Apples and Other Languages exhibition. The ‘Portraits’ (final image) combine single-species leaves or stems with text from conservation guide The Scrub Management Handbook (English Nature, 2001). Photos taken by the artist and author. Photos used with permission. Material in this item is under copyright and not to be used or shared without permission of the author, artist, and the press.
