Materials Data on Mg(ClO6)2 by Materials Project
View DatasetDescription
MgO10(ClO)2 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1/c space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of four hypochlorous acid molecules and two MgO10 ribbons oriented in the (1, 0, 0) direction. In each MgO10 ribbon, Mg is bonded in an octahedral geometry to six O atoms. There are a spread of Mg–O bond distances ranging from 2.05–2.41 Å. There are five inequivalent O sites. In the first O site, O is bonded in a distorted bent 120 degrees geometry to one Mg and one O atom. The O–O bond length is 1.35 Å. In the second O site, O is bonded in a bent 120 degrees geometry to one Mg and one O atom. The O–O bond length is 1.24 Å. In the third O site, O is bonded in a distorted bent 120 degrees geometry to one Mg and one O atom. The O–O bond length is 1.36 Å. In the fourth O site, O is bonded in a bent 120 degrees geometry to two O atoms. In the fifth O site, O is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one O atom.
